A recent poll carried out by the Turkish Research Center (TAM) shows that 14 percent of Germans look positively at the idea of buying land or housing in Turkey.
A 2002 nationwide survey of Germans showed that 5 percent of Germans were interested in buying holiday homes in Turkey, while 2 percent were considering buying land for investment purposes here. A full 25 percent of those asked had visited Turkey for holidays at least once. In just three years, a 2005 poll along similar lines revealed that the number of Germans who had visited Turkey at least once had risen to 35 percent, while one out of every 10 Germans were interested in buying holiday real estate in Turkey, and 5 percent were considering buying land for investment purposes here.
The age group expressing the most interest in Turkish land investment was the 35-40 year old group, with a monthly average income of 3,500 Euros. In terms of size, the homes most attractive to Germans polled appeared to be within the 100-150 m2 range, with up to five bedrooms, with an average property price tag of 150,000 Euros.
While 80 percent of Germans polled said they wanted swimming pools at the property they purchased, 63 percent said the presence of sports and beauty salons was also crucial. Other factors mentioned were saunas, businesses, bars and restaurants.
Dr. Martina Sauer of TAM says that Turkey’s history, natural beauty and climate serve to increase German interest in the country. She notes that in coming years, she fully expects German interest in land purchases in Turkey to rise.
Currently, there are more than 15,000 pieces of real estate owned by Germans in the country.
